With this view of your trail who couldn't be motivated
So my journey to 5k continues. I am proud to say I have been faithful to my runs and keeping up with them even during holidays. At the end of August we went to Whistler for our family vacation and I had vowed to continue my runs. Whistler is so beautiful so it was easy to stay focus with such gorgeous scenery. The first few runs were a little difficult - I am assuming it was the altitude - breathing was a bit of a challenge but once my body adjusted to the climate I was good to go. We stayed for a week so I completed that weeks 3 days during vacation. I was very proud of myself.
My daughter and I have continue running together but she is moving out soon so I have found a new partner. My hubby is taking on the challenge and I couldn't be more pleased. He ran with me those 3 days in Whistler and he really enjoyed it so it wasn't hard to talk him into it.
Complete - Woohoo!
We are currently starting Week 5 Day 1 - the previous week/days consisted of a brisk 5 minute warmup walk. A jog for 3 minutes followed by a walk for 1.5 minutes and a jog for 5 minutes. Then a walk for 2.5 minutes, a jog for 3 minutes, a walk for 1.5 minutes and ending with a jog for 5 minutes. Cool down follows. On my last run I started using Sports Beans. These are fast energy jelly beans that contain carbs, electrolytes and vitamins B & C. They come in assorted flavors. The directions on the package recommend taking the entire package 30 mins prior to activity, take some during activity and replenish with one pack after activity. I am a very small person and I've had issues in the past with products that induce energy so I am a bit skeptical about taking an entire package. I decided to only take a few (4 beans) prior to my run and see how it goes. Well, it went really well. I often wonder if these things sometimes are psychosomatic but regardless I had a lot of energy and felt as if I could go an extra 10 mins.
Lululemon Brisk Running cap
My biggest challenge have been my ears. I suffer from ear pain when wind cuts through my ears (warm or cold). The pain is so intense it feels like my whole cranium will explode. I had to cut one of my runs short because of the pain though I only had 5 minutes left on the clock but the pain was too intense to bare. A friend lent me a Lululemon Brisk Running Cap - this cap has wicking capacities, a ponytail hole and is contoured for ear coverage. It worked like a charm and no ear pain! I will be ordering a couple of these for sure!
We have been experiencing unusually warm weather for this time of year - so warm that running in shorts and short sleeves for late September is not uncommon. But I know the cold weather will be here before we know it so I am looking for new warm weather running gear. Lululemon used to carry the Lululemon Alpine Tights which were luon with fleece like lining. I never owned a pair so I would love to find one. These are no longer available in stores but I am hoping Lulu will come out with something similar this season. Here is hoping. I came across a pair of winter running tights at the Running Room by Ron Hill - The Vizion Winter Tights - $89 - similar construction to the Lululemon Alpine Tights and for the price seemed reasonable. I may purchase them and review them in future postings.
